Trick-Taking Games

I initially waffled on making this specific hub, but after 1400+ board game reviews, I need to have more granularity in what we’re doing with Hub Pages. Trick-taking games are some of the more specifically challenging games to start up and learn. Here’s the basics, though: each turn (a trick), you’ll play a card from your hand, and the highest card played wins. Doesn’t sound too complicated, but almost every trick-taking game adds several tiers of challenge and rules to keep things interesting. They’re also pretty portable, but aren’t always as small as the micro games or wallet games I cover elsewhere. Trick-taking games pop up in many different forms, though: there are board games, card games, and occasionally tile-laying games that use trick-taking as a mechanic, which can be pretty cool. Some are cooperative games, some are tricky two-player duels, and a lot force you to bet in advance on what will happen during the game! Let’s check out some of my picks!
